SYMPHONY OF FRIENDSHIP
The relationship between Indonesia and Austria has developed positively since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1954. Despite being separated by a considerable distance, they have strong cooperation in various fields, including trade, tourism, education, and culture, including music. Through collaboration in the field of music, Indonesia and Austria can mutually appreciate the cultural musical heritage of each other, broaden musical insights, and strengthen cultural ties between the two countries.
In commemoration of the 70th anniversary of friendship between Indonesia and Austria, the Jakarta Concert Orchestra led by Avip Priatna Mag.Art will present “SYMPHONY OF FRIENDSHIP.” The concert will feature works by Austrian composers such as Erich Wolfgang Korngold, Anton Bruckner (celebrating 200th birthday), Johann Strauss Jr, as well as compositions by two young Indonesian composers, Fero Aldiansya Stefanus and Fafan Isfandiar.
For this performance, JCO has invited a talented young violinist from Austria: Julian Walder. Julian has won numerous prestigious international violin competitions including the New York International Artists Association violin competition in the United States and the Grumiaux Competition in Belgium. He is e.g. a prize winner of the OSAKA Music Competition, the Fritz Kreisler Kreisler Competition in Austria and recently a major prize winner of the International Henri Marteau Violin Competition in Germany as first Austrian in 20 years of its history.
Additionally, JCO will also be performing with Indonesian singers Farman Purnama (tenor), Jessica Januar (soprano), and Valentina Nova Aman (mezzo-soprano), as well as the world-renowned Batavia Madrigal Singers.
One of the compositions featured in this concert program is the “Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 35” by Austrian-American composer Erich Wolfgang Korngold (1897 – 1957). Julian Walder will perform as the soloist for this concerto. Korngold is renowned for his mastery in both classical and film music composition. His famous film scores include “The Adventures of Robin Hood” (1938), “Captain Blood” (1935), and “The Sea Hawk” (1940). He is considered one of the composers who successfully bridged the classical and film music worlds.
